Weatherford, Texas, is a community of about 26,000 citizens about 25-miles west of Fort Worth, along I-20. It is the county seat of Parker County, and it is considered a part of the Dallas-Forth Worth metroplex.

History

The town was named after state senator Thomas Jefferson Weatherford who supposedly never even visited the area, even though the community was within his district. The first European settlers arrived in the 1840s. Occasional skirmishes with the Comanche continued into the 1870s. In 1880, the railroad arrived and the community's growth accelerated. The Weatherford Democrat was first published in 1895, and it is still published to this day. The state legislature named Weatherford the "Peach Capital of Texas" due to the preponderance of peach groves in the area at the time. It has also become known as the "Cutting Horse Capital of the World."

Clark Gardens Botanical Park is a 35-acre oasis that offers both inspiration and relaxation aplenty. The facility is wheelchair-accessible. Waterfalls offer a beautiful backdrop to the spring blossoms and the colorful fall foliage. Swans, both black and white, glide about on the sparkling waters of the parks' lakes. Egrets, herons and even peacocks are often seen here as well.
