Poolville, Texas

Poolville TX Homes for Sale and Community Information

Poolville, Texas, is an unincorporated community in Parker County. It is located 17-miles northwest of the county seat of Weatherford. The population of Poolville is about 2,500. A body of water east of town inspired the name "Poolville." As the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex has expanded steadily westward, the community has attracted increasing attention from commuters wanting a rural lifestyle for their families.

History

The area was first settled in the 1840s, although the area consisted primarily of large ranches that grazed cattle across the prairie lands. When the railroad came to Parker County in the 1880s, the local area grew until a couple of hundred people called Poolivile home. The post office was established in 1883.

Parks and Recreation

Lake Mineral Wells State Park is a scenic area with dramatic rock formations just southwest of Poolville. Rock climbers and rappellers love the huge rocks in the park. Interestingly, the facility also offers horseback riding and equestrian camping. The 500-ft in elevation changes and the views of the lake make hiking and mountain biking both popular. Fishing is a favorite pastime in Lake Wells, and swimming is also possible, although it is unsupervised. Ranger programs at the new Lone Star Amphitheater offer opportunities to learn more about cowboy history via poetry and music. Families with children may want to check out the Kid’s Wilderness Survival program.

Attractions and Activities

Chandor Gardens offers a very special display of formal gardens with both Chinese and English influences in Weatherford. Dazzling fountains and a waterfall that's 30-ft high provide great backdrops for the brightly-colored blossoms that invade the facility every spring and summer. In the fall, the foliage turns crimson, yellow, orange and more.

Events

First Monday Trade Days in nearby Weatherford is a 155 year-old trading trading. Ranchers used to bring livestock and farmers brought produce to trade. Today, antiques, collectibles, artwork and many other items appear here on the first weekend before the first Monday of each month. Attendees savor festival-style food as they peruse the offerings.
