History

A Georgia native, H.H. Peaster, purchased 160 acres here and built a house at a time when land only cost several dollars an acre. A small town would eventually grow up around this original homestead. It was initially known as Freemont, and then in 1885 it became Peasterville. Later, the name was shortened to Peaster. Just prior to the Great Depression the population expanded to 300. It then dropped precipitously as the depression era continued.

Anglers will want to head east a short distance to reach the shores of Lake Weatherford. Crappies, Largemouth Bass and Channel Catfish are among the species found here in abundance. The marina offers a boat launch. Boating, kayaking, jet skiing and sailing are also among the popular recreational activities enjoyed on this Texas reservoir.
