Check Out Weatherford!

The coming of the first railroad in 1880 made Weatherford the place to be, as freighting and shipping to the west and northwest was headquartered in town. The 1880's and 1890's were very prosperous years for the county. Two more railroads were built, the Rock Creek mines were in operation, and the improvement of horse and cattle stock brought many new investors. Many of the large homes in town were built during this time. The civic and business organizations brought in telephones and electricity, while circuses and conventions provided entertainment, along with the Opera House on the Square.

After 1900, Parker County became a more agricultural county; its peaches and watermelons becoming known across the United States. The large orchards and improved varieties of watermelons and other fruits and vegetables helped the farmers to prosper. Many ranchers began to raise pure-bred cattle and fine horses, and Parker County shipped many mules to the cotton farms in the South.

The Cutting Horse Capital of the world!
The Cutting Horse Capital of the world!

As the population grows today, Parker County still retains its reputation for peaches and watermelons, and its ranches still run large herds of prime cattle. The raising of outstanding quarter-horses has become a major industry and the county has become known nation-wide as the Cutting Horse Capital. Excellent schools, many churches and friendly communities all contribute their share to making Parker County a good place to live.

Real Estate Tips
Curb Appeal >Upgrade Before You Sell

Real estate agents sometimes receive calls from homeowners asking for advice on what they should do to prepare their house to go on the market. They may have settled for living in a "less than optimal" circumstance for years, and are now going to spend money to make it nice for someone else to enjoy.

If you are considering painting, updating the kitchen, landscaping, or making any other improvements that will increase your home's re-sale value, think about making those improvements while you are still there to enjoy them. Create your own dream kitchen, master suite or spa, build an outdoor living room or restore your wood floors now. Improving your property will make your home more enjoyable, help maintain the property values in your neighborhood, and expedite the sale of your home when you are ready for a move.
