Holland Lake Park is one of the

The coming of the first railroad in 1880
made Weatherford the place to be, as freighting and shipping to the west and
northwest was headquartered in town. The 1880's and 1890's were very prosperous
years for the county. Two more railroads were built, the Rock Creek mines were
in operation, and the improvement of horse and cattle stock brought many new
investors. Many of the large homes in town were built during this time. The
civic and business organizations brought in telephones and electricity, while
circuses and conventions provided entertainment, along with the Opera House on
the Square.

After 1900, Parker County became a more
agricultural county; its peaches and watermelons becoming known across the
United States. The large orchards and improved varieties of watermelons and
other fruits and vegetables helped the farmers to prosper. Many ranchers began
to raise pure-bred cattle and fine horses, and Parker County shipped many mules
to the cotton farms in the South.
